Ace adds extra MBO to boost production

Ace Binding has installed a third MBO as demand for its finishing services continues to increase.

Ace Binding Companyis up and running with its third MBO B30 folder in seven years. These run alongside two Stahls at the seven-year-old Birmingham trade finishing house.

“The new folder is extra capacity, says director Rob Hart. “It is a straightforward machine that is ideal for us. It comprises plates, rollers and belts that we can make ready in 10-15 minutes and which runs all day and night. The B30 is the perfect model to fulfil our present requirements.”

The company has also ordered a Renz Inline 500 Compact punch and binder, expecting to install this in August ahead of the calendar season. “We have notices that printed calendars have become popular over the last couple of year and this is a strong opportunity for us. It will be a good investment.” This will be the first in the UK.

The 40-staff company has also noticed an increase is trade stitching work, counter to the perception that work of this nature is staying in house with printers. It has a 12-year-old Heidelberg Stitchmaster ST300. “We have definitely seen an upturn in this work over the last year,” says Hart.

Ace Binding also runs a Muller Martini Alegro binder which has turned out to be a good investment for the business. Ace is also offering lamination, glued mailers, cut and crease and shrink wrapping. It added a double gatefold attachment to one its other MBOs which has opened up products needing a cross fold to increase versatility further.

The quality of the folder has been reaffirmed by the investment in the B30/644 Efficiency model. “We regularly invest in new equipment to update our capabilities and improve service to our customers. I also believe that MBO folders are the best machines on the market for trade finishers and for us the B30 is the perfect model to fulfil our present requirements.”
