NBC Print Finishing has installed a Komfi Delta 52 thermal laminator to increase the number of services that the Nottinghamshire company can deliver.
The laminator was supplied by Friedheim International, also agent for MBO, the supplier of the company’s folders including a large format folder. Managing director Nick Champion, who started the Bulwell business five years ago, says: “Along with an increased demand for jobs to be laminated came a demand from customer to have certain jobs turned around more quickly.”
And it is not simply short runs. Last week, says a spokesman, the laminator was committed to a long run job, this it will be handling “bits and bobs”, the hallmark of a trade finisher, many printed digitally.
These can come from both local printers and those further afield, including London. “We offer some specialised finishing,” says a company spokesman. “We can handle complicated and large format folding. A recent customer found he could not get a local finisher to take on large format map folding from a laminated sheet.”
It is early days for the laminator, which, Champion says, he looked at after recommendations. “We were recommended to have a look at the Komfi range of laminating machines, and the Delta 52 proved exactly what we were looking for in terms of the format we wanted to handle in-house,” he says.
“As we are new to in-house laminating the Delta has proved ideal in being easy to set up and operate, and in the event that we do encounter any difficulties then one of the other reasons Komfi was recommended was the comprehensive after sales service provided by Friedheim.
“It has performed exactly as we had hoped.”
The map folding is carried out on an MBO T1020 taking a sheet up to 1,450x1,020mm; saddle stitching on a six-hopper Muller Martini and guillotined on a Polar 115.
