Hatch opens as London focused online print operation

After several weeks' operation below the radar, Hatch has its eyes on fast turnarounds from inner London online operation.

Hatch has broken cover as a new online print service, targeted at fast turnaround print for designers and agencies in London.

“These are people who have had enough of desalting with sales people and broken promises about delivery and price,” says Gary Toomey, founder of Hatch. “Then there are the backdoor costs of buying business cards. You can start thinking about paying £9, and find that you end up with a bill for £60 or more. And there are a lot of people that have had enough of poor quality.”

The aim is to provide good quality print throughout London and the M25 with fast turnaround as well as with predictable costs. “We are starting with business cards, flyers, brochures and roller banners,” he says, explaining that as the service progresses more and more templates are being added.

The interface to customers is via an Infigo web to print front end. This allows Hatch to offer a better impression that other websites. “There is lots of competition out there in the print on demand sector, so I knew I needed to set Hatch apart with a cutting edge user experience and an outstanding service,” says Toomey.

“We looked at building our own software, but changed when we saw how committed Infigo was. They will build APIs to preflighting via PitStop and into Gophr, the delivery service we are using.”

This includes same day print and deliver to central London of print that has been ordered by 2pm and is within the scope of its HP Indigo 7900, that is quantities of flyers below 1,000 as well as banners an business cards.

The press is part of the line up of Southwark printer Fontain which also currently has a Speedmaster XL75-5 and has just ordered a Ricoh Pro C9100 and Ricoh Pro C7100 specified with a fifth colour to add further value to the print produced. These replace a pair of C901s.

”I was impressed with what we saw at Ricoh in Telford, and realised it was worth getting new machines in,” says Fontain director Adam Frost. “These join the Indigo 7900 which we installed in October. The Ricohs will handle the non HP work and where we need to compete on price. We can also print a 700mm sheet, giving us 6pp of A4 or guaranteed spine for financial work.”

Finishing technologies that Fontain has includes folding, stitching and perfect binding. It also has HP large format roll printers.

Hatch is a separate business that call on these facilities. Experience of fast turnaround financial work provides the confidence that it will keep pace with Hatch as it expands online print.
