Platinum HPL has installed an Agfa Anapurna hybrid inkjet printer at its premises in Harrogate, addressing increasing demand for digital display products.
The company has operated an Arizona flatbed printer. but while nominally able to feed a roll of material, this proved less than ideal in practice, says managing director Mark Plummer. “We’ve had the Arizona for three years and now need something faster. Looking around at what was available and we say the Anapurna.”
At 2.5 metres wide it is larger than the machine it succeeds, offers greater flexibility through the roll feed extending the range of fabrics than can be printed using the LED UV sensitive inks. And it is faster.
“The display side of the business is still growing,” says Plummer. “We needed the extra productivity that the hybrid Anapurna gives us.” The machine was shipped and turned on for the first time last week. “What it is producing is simply amazing with the speed of output, especially two days after installation,” he adds.
The company has undergone an internal reorganisation, creating separate areas for litho, for cut sheet digital, large format digital and mailing. It enables personnel to have greater involvement in the operation of their area and to spread the responsibility. “We have a good crew and this will the team to take more ownership,” Plummer explains.
On the cut sheet side, the company operates Ricoh production printers while in the litho division it runs a four-colour Komori Lithrone 29 HUV and five-colour B2 Lithrone.
Platinum HPL has installed a hybrid Anapurna giving it greater capacity in its large format division. The company is giving each of four divisions greater responsibility for performance in order to find growth.
