Ricoh takes Domino inkjet press to fill out webfed portfolio

The Pro VC20000 web press launched this month is built around the Domino inkjet press seen at Drupa and Hunkeler earlier this year.

Ricoh is adding another inkjet press to its stable of continuous feed machines, but this time it is working with Domino Printing Sciences rather than with Screen.

The Pro VC20000 is an entry level press aimed at books and leaflet printing. Domino sells it as the K630i and has had a machine installed at Ashford Colour Press for book printing for around a year. A second is understood to have been sold.

This makes the press a stable unit that Ricoh can take on add its own software and inks and begin shipping. It will also fit a transactional user that is moving from laser printing but which does not want to install a colour press.

Tim Taylor, head of continuous feed market, commercial and industrial printing group, says: “The Pro V20000 platform is a great addition to our portfolio. It joins the Ricoh Pro VC40000, which was announced earlier this year, and Ricoh Pro VC60000 continuous feed inkjet printers, meaning we have a system that suits the production requirements of almost any operation.

“The easy to run systems also offer an upgrade path for existing toner based operations. The improved operational efficiency, increased running speeds and significantly lower running costs often mean one inkjet device can replace several ageing toner machines.”

The Domino design includes features to ensure operation is as simple as possible as automated as possible. The Cambridge company intends to push this press as effectively as it has done the N610, now the best selling inkjet label press in the world.

Ricoh will add its TotalFlow BatchBuilder software to handle book productions and, says Taylor, “with a combination of FusionPro and Ricoh Process Director, we can provide a complete and secure pharmaceutical solution”.

Ricoh will introduce the new press in three guises: the 75mpm, 600x600dpi mono V20000, the V20100 at 150mpm 600x600dpi mono press and as a 75mpm, 600x600dpi CMYK version.

Domino does not as yet offer a colour version, but will supply the K630i with either aqueous or UV inks, and in three widths: 333mm, 445mm and 558mm.
